Designer Karen Hsu is the founder of Cash & Puppy, a chic and comfortable women’s brand inspired by the laid back California lifestyle. Cash & Puppy embodies soft textures and flexibility in each of its designs to offer women both the pleasures of style and comfort. Hsu’s designs are carefully crafted and designed with the modern woman in mind, creating effortless pieces that are straightforward and understated.
Originally from Taiwan, Hsu split her time between Taipei and Los Angeles where she originally pursued a career in education. She knew from an early age that fashion was her true calling and was inspired to attend a fashion marketing course in Milan after college. In fact, she interned for fashion brands like Whitely Kros where she fell in love with needlework, fabrics, and the amazing world of art. After earning a master’s degree in education from the University of Southern California, Hsu enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in 2010. Following her graduation from FIDM, Hsu joined the design team at Splendid.
Her first knitwear capsule contains 14 ready-to-wear pieces that embody both the L.A. and Taipei cultures. The collection was created using five fabrics including, modal/silk jersey, cotton jersey and supplex/spandex knit. Hsu makes great use of these soft fabrics as to reflect the L.A. comfort, as well as the modern and minimalistic elements of the city. Easy and essential, each of the pieces is designed to be versatile.
Cash & Puppy was opened in 2016 in Taipei. The inspiration for the unique name culminated from Hsu’s vision of creating a boutique with all of her favorite things. She plans to consolidate her current market in Asia and eventually expand to the U.S. and Europe market.
Hsu will present her collection on March 7, 2017 (Day 2) of OCFW held at the Orange County Museum of Art.
